HISTORY OF SMACK
St. Mary’s School was founded in 1906 by Reverend Father Raux Modeste of the White Fathers Congregation and later became St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), now owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala. Initially established in Rubaga to provide quality education for Catholic youths, the school evolved from a lower primary section to a college offering commercial training in 1922 and later advanced to a higher school status after 1956. Due to limited space at Rubaga, the school relocated to Kisubi in 1924, on land granted by Kabaka Mutesa I. The first students excelled academically, securing all five available scholarships to Makerere College in 1923. In 1926, administration transitioned from the White Fathers to the Brothers of Christian Instruction from Canada. By 1936, SMACK had introduced the Cambridge School Certificate (C.S.C), further solidifying its reputation as a top academic institution in Uganda.
